Commodore Barbour Regatta

The University of Michigan Sailing Team is proud to announce the Commodore John S. Barbour Memorial Regatta. This event will be hosted out of
Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, MI on Sunday, September 7, 2014. During registration, boats are offered and encouraged to take a local junior sailor along for the ride.

Commodore John Barbour was a lifelong sailor and incredibly active member of Bayview Yacht Club since 1969. Mr. Barbour became Commodore in 1989 and was longtime leader of the NA40 class. Some of his greatest accomplishments include winning the overall in 1993 Port Huron-Mackinac Race, finishing first overall 100th Chicago-to-Mackinac Race, and numerous class victories. Commodore Barbour’s passion for racing and promotion of junior sailing encouraged the Michigan Sailing Team to create an event in his honor.
Commodore John Barbour was a long time supporter of junior sailing. To honor that fact, we highly encourage competitors to take junior sailors along for the race.
The regatta is open to all boats with a valid PHRF rating. The event will consist of an approximately 3 hour distance race on Lake St. Clair. Registration is $30/boat on Yacht Scoring. Please email Co-Captain Chris Cyr at chriscyr@umich.edu if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to take junior sailors along for the race.
